PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION

Communication :

Communication is a process of sharing or exchanging experiences, information.ideas, opinions, thoughts etc.between the source and receiver through some mutually agreeable or known media ( verbal /non-verbal. Communication is the main tool of teaching process. It is not possible to complete the teaching-learning process without the communication. Thus communication is the process of exchange of ideas among two individuals.

Communication is said to be a psycho-social process. It initiates human interaction.it can be understood by the following flow -diagram:

The Elements of Communication Process :-

nSender
nEncode
nChannel
nDecode
nReceiver
nFeedback

  • nSender :- The origin of any message is called a source. When an individual becomes a source,he is called as messenger.
  • nEncode :- The process of using symbols to express the idea or feeling; and ciphering a message.
  • nChannel :- The way or medium by which a message travels from source to receiver is called a channel. For example,Radio or TV Studio,Newspaper,TV channel,Books, and Letters etc.
  • nDecode :- It is the process of  is the reverse of encoding, which is the process of transforming information from one format into another.
  • nReceiver :- The person who completes the process of communication on other extreme end is called a receiver.
  • nFeedback :- It is the feelings conveyed by the receiver to the sender after the completion of the process of communication.

Communication can be disturbed, spoiled or destroyed sometimes due to the barriers occurring in it.

The important barriers are as following :-

Physical Barriers

Language Barriers

Psychological Barriers

Background Barriers

Physical Barriers

Consist of any sound that prevents a person from being heard.
Physical noise interferes with a speaker's ability to send messages and with an audience's ability to receive them.
Include mumbling, speaking too fast, distracting gestures, noise inside the room such a ringing telephones etc - or outside the building such as traffic or aeroplanes.
Your message may be blocked because people in your audience are uncomfortable, they cannot hear because of bad sound system and cannot see because of inadequate lighting.

Language Barriers

This is one of the most common barriers that can be found. Many communication issues can be occurred because of the language and vocabulary differences. If the sender and the receiver cannot understand the languages of each others, the communication will not give the intended effect.
Use of unclear and inappropriate words also can make confusions and misunderstandings during a particular communication process.

Psychological Barriers

Psychological barriers is the self limiting beliefs a person may have which in turn affects their behaviour - that is.. what they do or don't do as a result of having a self limiting belief.
If you are a healthy and otherwise reasonably well adjusted adult you will have the capacity to challenge and overcome your psychological barriers.

Background Barriers

Differences in background can be one of the hardest communication barriers to overcome. Age, education, gender, social status, economic position, cultural background, temperament, health, beauty, popularity, religion, political belief, even a passing mood can all separate one person from another and make understanding difficult.

ELIMINATION OF BARRIERS IN COMMUNICATION :-

The barriers in communication can be eliminated in the following manner :

  •          Simple and lucid language
  •          Comprehensibility of the content
  •          Presence of a good listener
  •          Proper attention
  •          Active listening
  •          Concentration on written facts
  •          Avoid emotionality
Discussion:

Teacher Blogs

There are many teacher related blogs on the internet where teachers can share information with one another (see popular teacher blogs below). Teachers familiarize themselves with education blogs before implementing them with their students. Many teachers share materials and ideas to meet the diverse needs of all learners in their classrooms. Teachers can often rely on these sources to communicate with one another regarding any issues in education that they may be having, including classroom management techniques and policies. In this way, the blog often acts as a support system for teachers where they can access ideas, tools, and gain support and recognition from other professionals in their field. Weblogs can provide a forum for reading, writing and collaborating. Teachers Count can be used as instructional resources, in which teachers can post tips, explanations or samples to help students learn. The use of blogs in the classroom allows both the teacher and student the ability to edit and add content at any time. The ability for both the teacher and student to edit content allows for study to take place outside the classroom environment. Blogs increase exposure to other students from around the country or world, while improving writing and communication skills. Teachers are using blogs as a way to post important information such as homework, important dates, missed lessons, projects, discussion boards, and other useful classroom information that is accessible by all. Students can access this information from home, or from any computer that is connected to the Internet. Teachers and parents can also use blogs in order to communicate with one another. It can be used to post class announcements for parents or providing schedule reminders. Blogging is also a central tool for parents to find out daily assignments so that they can check up on their children and classroom expectations.

Welcome !

Teachers Count is a blog created for educational purposes. Teachers Count archive and support student and teacher learning by facilitating reflection, questioning by self and others, collaboration and by providing contexts for engaging in higher-order thinking. Teachers Count proliferated when blogging architecture became more simplified and teachers perceived the instructional potential of blogs as an online resource. The use of blogs has become popular in education institutions including public schools and colleges. Blogs can be useful tools for sharing information and tips among co-workers, providing information for students, or keeping in contact with parents. Common examples include blogs written by or for teachers, blogs maintained for the purpose of classroom instruction, or blogs written about educational policy.
